I didn't see it mentioned yet in the new RT thread...but it's worth a mention...

From the dead.net email:
"Order all four of the upcoming 2011 Road Trips releases now, and you'll get FREE SHIPPING on all four sets plus an exclusive Bonus Disc, featuring previously unreleased highlights from 12/6/73 in Cleveland, Ohio. This is top-notch Dead and will ONLY be available to subscribers of the Road Trips Series!"

Now, this is from the email - on the website, all they say is that the bonus disc details have not been finalized - so maybe it's a false alarm, or the Dead pranksters pulling our legs?

But if not.... If you were to think of a show that should be available ONLY as a one-disc highlights selection, and ONLY to year-long RT subscribers - I bet 12/6/73 wouldn't be that show.

Any guesses as to whether or Rhino will be able to fix the terrible aud patch at the end of 12/6/73 Here Comes Sunshine?

don't count on it. they ruined the '73 winterland 11/11 show by not patching eyes of the world - instead they did a zipper job. it really killed me after having had a version that needed a speed adjustment but was patched. always loved the ds-eyes from that show but when i heard the official release i was devastated.

They will use a portion of the song from another night to patch it, just like they did on the Weather Report Suite intro from Dick's Picks 1.

Considering it's just the very last chorus, it would be easy enough for them to patch that bit with a nearby Sunshine.

Then again, there's no telling whether Sunshine would even be on the disc. There isn't enough room on one disc for all the 12/6/73 highlights!
I wouldn't put it past them to edit the Dark Star down to a manageable 30 minutes....

Doesnt seem to be a false alarm, the email says exactly that (in fine print)

Pretty fucked up if you ask me. Not only are they using that bonus disc to get heads to buy releases that they might have no interest in, but hacking up the Cleveland show is a crime against nature...

What's ironic to me is that deadmax & I were saying not long ago that this is one show that couldn't get the bonus-disc treatment!
It's almost like the dead.net folks are reading the forum... "Let's see, what'll make them weep & cry? Let's release a 1988 show! Better yet, bits of 12/6/73 on a bonus disc for a mere $95.50 subscription! But don't worry, you'll get the entire 3/31/88 second set!"

As an often defender of this series , and one who tries to "like it all", I hardly think of a better way to make people not drop, the "Ben Frank" for the subscription, than this one two combo . 1. the first issue is from a rather ho hum year ( why not hook people in with something REALLY desirable , THEN slip in an 88 show ...).2. Potentially hack up a great show, to the howls and anger of their potential buyers .
To quote Decard Cain "This does not bode well my friends "....

shit, i'd buy the december '73 show in a heartbeat (even though i have a copy of the miller remaster), but you couldn't pay me to listen to even a highlight reel of that or any '88 show. what a waste.
